For those who love UFC, this is for you.

I watched UFC on Fox last night

Didn’t post about it before hand cause I’ve been doing things around the house/getting ready to go back to school in a week/we have company.

BUT, HERE’S MY THOUGHTS:

Mike Swick was too clutch with those punches on DeMarques Johnson, I called it when I saw the KO that he would be getting the ‘knockout of the night’ title.

Joe Lauzon got Jamie Varner with that triangle choke, I had expectations for Lauzon, there were some good hits in this fight, and I knew Varner was going to tap because the hold was good.

Lyoto Machida turned the lights out on Ryan Bader, I knew this would be a good match up because both of these fighters are great, and I enjoy watching them fight. It was interesting to watch each fighters demeanor, and how they carried themselves during the bout. Bader sort of trip-slipped when trying to come at Machida, which turned out to be bad news for him- Machida didn’t hesitate to knock him out.

(Mauricio) Shogun Rua took a while to get Brandon Vera (who if y’all don’t know, is REAL TALL) out, but he got him with a TKO. Rua was dominant 98% of the fight, and Brandon Vera had some good moments, but obviously it wasn’t enough to stop Rua. I’m pretty sure the last time I saw Brandon Vera fight was when Jon Jones broke his nose real badly, I don’t remember if I saw him in more recent ones or not.

So, I’m also looking at upcoming fight cards,

none are as stacked as I’d like them to be, but what can you do, there’s only so many fights/events scheduled for the remainder of 2012. (I mean, there can be changes and injuries, but still). I think 2013 will deliver some very stacked cards and feature some people who were notable in 2012.

I’ve been waiting to see GSP fight again for a while now (haven’t we all?!) and if all goes according to plan, his fight night will be one of the last ones of 2012 (late november).

Will we see anyone challenge Anderson Silva for the belt? Only one who has come close was Chael Sonnen, and they’re not going to do a third fight. I say they hold interim fights for the belt that will be theirs once The Spider retires.

And so on and so forth, I’ll try to post some more random MMA/UFC things throughout this week (and then I won’t be able to until I’m all settled in at school…warning y’all now…)

and UFC 149/other MMA news~

Like I said, I didn’t watch UFC 149, my friend texted me updates prelims-main card while i was at a MLB game.

Looking at the results, it seems like a night of decisions, few submissions, and few knockouts. I don’t have much to say other than I’d probably really disappointed if I watched the card…I really don’t even want to comment on it, other than the 7 second knock out, better look out for Jimmo- up and coming.

After reading lots of articles and posts, here’s what I think/FOUND

-Dana White is getting frustrated with the refs. “It’s the ref’s job to protect the fighters, making the right calls, and making sure they fight.” Which apparently, last Saturday, some refs were not doing.

-The prelim card delivered, the main card did not- unfortunate to those who ordered it PPV, embarrassing for Dana.

-What’s going on with Urijah Faber….

-Dana White believes that Chael Sonnen has some big fights left before he walks away from the sport (and, he’s the only one to ever challenge Anderson Silva)

-Chael may change weight classes

-Rampage days in the UFC are coming to a close

-Anderson Silva— WHAT’S NEXT?!

post-UFC 148

What a night!

Bantamweights: Mike Easton defeated Ivan Menjvar by unanimous decision…I was slightly bored for a while, and it was obvious who won the fight. I expect to see Mike Easton as an up and coming fighter.

Featherweights: Chad Mendes defeated Cody McKenzie via TKO (punches)…quick fight! Cody McKenzie to me looked like he needs to bulk up a little more, he just seemed weak and I somewhat expected more from him.

Welterweights: Demian Maia defeated Dong Hyun Kim via TKO (painful looking injury)…that was a painful looking knock-out…the way Kim landed on the mat (almost face first into the fence) and got his rib(s) injured in the process made this fight end quickly. Even Maia said he thinks that Kim landed funny!

Middleweights: Cung Le defeated Patrick Cote via unanimous decision…for a 40 year old to fight for 15 minutes, props! This was the bloodiest fight of the night (on the main card, in my opinion).

Light Heavyweight: Forrest Griffin defeated Tito Ortiz via unanimous decision…Tito Ortiz, hall of famer, who went from glory days to almost washed up, made a comeback and then, unfortunately, RETIRED with a loss, but, he made the fight go the distance and ROCKED Forrest multiple times! I think if Ortiz had taken advantage of the moments where Forrest was stumbling/had been rocked pretty hard quick enough, maybe the odds would’ve been more in Ortiz’s favor. I think that Forrest storming out of the Octagon after the 3rd round was really unprofessional of him, but, I’m glad he came back and paid his respects to Tito Ortiz.

Middleweights: Anderson Silva defeated Chael Sonnen via TKO (strikes)…I was so nervous for this fight. The moment I’ve been waiting almost 2 years for finally was here. Chael wasted no time in getting Anderson to the ground for some ground and pound, but I wished that Chael had thrown more hard hitting and destructive blows while he had control and opportunity to do so, to set Anderson back, or even knock him out! Anderson wasn’t even phased, which was crazy. Anderson got to Chael in the second round, and Chael  staying on the ground rather than getting up quickly was what led to the knock-out, otherwise, I feel that this fight would’ve gone on longer, and maybe we would’ve seen a new middleweight champion of the world. But for now, Anderson remains the best in the world, and there’s no denying that. I don’t know how many fights Anderson has left, cause no one can beat him. (So, although, this was the only rematch that we’ve wanted to see Anderson in, Chael can still be considered one of the best and has had Anderson on his back for now, 5 rounds).

I think once Anderson retires (which will probably be in the foreseeable future, still undefeated), Dana will pick contenders whom he thinks should become the new middleweight champion of the world, and whomever wins, has the belt until he is challenged in the next title fight.

I’d like to see Chael Sonnen contend for the belt, he still has a good amount of time in the UFC. Also, I admire the professionalism of Anderson Silva at the post-fight interview in the Octagon, making peace with Chael and encouraging his fans to do the same. BBQ at the spider’s house! Chael is VIP!

UPDATE for UFC 148/9

Most current fight card (I don’t think it will change unless anything happens last minute and it absolutely HAS to be changed) for UFC 148 (PPV, this Saturday, the 7th):

MAIN CARD:

Ivan Menjivar vs Mike Easton
Chad Mendes vs Cody McKenzie
Dong Hyun Kim vs Demian Maia
Cung Le vs Patrick Cote
Forrest Griffin vs Tito Ortiz
Chael Sonnen vs Anderson Silva (II)

This is a fight card worth watching. Urijah Faber is no longer on the card, but will be fighting in UFC 149 on Saturday July 21st, which is a PPV, which he is HEADLINING.

I will go into details about the Main Card for UFC 148 in another post before the night of the fight! (And post my reactions afterwards, cause I have been planning for MONTHS to go see this!)

:)

Sorry for the lull, yet again!

I actually had a 52 hour work week these past 5 days, so I haven’t been online much!

BUT, I am on summer, and my schedule from here on out is much more lax, so I will be able to actually get on tumblr more..yay!

THIS IS A BIG WEEKEND FOR THE UFC!

UFC on FX tonight- 9 Eastern

UFC 147 PPV tomorrow night!

I’m definitely watching tonight (and will post reactions, etc), not so sure about tomorrow night because it’s one of my best friends birthdays~ BUT. YEAH.

If anyone has predictions or anything, feel free to leave em in the ask box and I’ll post them!

UFC on FX!

Actually watched it with my dad.

I wasn’t really a fan of the card, I was considering not watching it at all, but, hey, it turned out to be pretty interesting. If I wasn’t ridiculously tired right now, I’d do more in depth reviews, but, I’ll do it later.

the funniest thing was when they left the q-tips in the octagon and mccall just shrugged and threw them behind him!

Lots of stacked cards coming up in the UFC!!

ESP THE SILVA VS SONNEN II !!!!!!!!!! i am so stoked for july 7th.

I drunkenly debated the UFC 148 fight card this past Friday night. The person I was chatting with was sober, I had him pull up the card and I explained why people were going to kick ass.

It’s safe to say that I won. He was speechless.

UFC 146-

Okay, so, I had planned on going to watch it. The person I was going to go with ended up going out of town, and by the time I found someone able to keep me company, the main card had started and I wasn’t able to get a table. So, unfortunately, I wasn’t able to watch :(

Junior dos Santos defeated Frank Mir in the 2nd round via TKO (punches), defending his title as the Heavyweight Champion of the World. (I wonder if Cain will get a shot at him and the belt?)

Cain Velasquez (former HWT champ) defeated Antonio Silva in the1st round via TKO (punches). Things definitely should be looking up for the former champ.

Roy Nelson, Stipe Miocic and Stefan Stuve all defeated their opponents within the second or first round as well. It was a night of heavyweights!

Hopefully I’ll be able to see good clips from it and comment some more, but that’s my mini recap for y’all!

Also- Happy Memorial Day to ALL- hope everyone has a wonderful and safe holiday, and thank you to those who served our country in any way, shape, or form!

UPDATE FOR UFC 148

(As noted by the previous post that someone kindly informed me of in the ask box)

It is now confirmed that Urijah Faber will be fighting  Renan Barao

Their fight WILL be 5 rounds to determine the interim bantamweight champion

What the summer looks like, UFC style!

  • We see Jason “Mayhem” Miller in a prelim fight against CB Dollaway
  • Dan Hardy in a prelim against Duane Ludwig
  • Cain Velasquez making an appearance since losing the belt, against Antonio Silva, this should be interesting.

The Ultimate Fighter Live- FINALE; Friday June 1st

UFC on FX: Johnson vs McCall; Friday June 8th

UFC on FX: Maynard vs Guida; Friday June 22nd (This main event should be good!!)

UFC 147: PPV-June 23rd

  • Vitor Belfort takes on Wanderlei Silva
  • There isn’t much else to this fight card…YET!

UFC 148: PPV- JULY 7TH—- I’d say this is one you NEED to watch if you don’t see anything else all summer!!!!!!

  • SILVA VS SONNEN II!! (I’ve been waiting for almost 2 years to see them rematch….Chael Sonnen is the only person who’s come close to beating the Spider!)
  • Also, Dominick Cruz vs Urijah Faber (what i’ve seen, wasn’t on the UFC website card though)
  • Forrest Griffin vs Tito Ortiz (interesting)
  • Kim vs Maia
  • Melvin Guillard is fighting as well as Philippou, and Rich Franklin
  • This card isn’t complete yet, but these are the big ones on there thus far.
