UFC on Fox! (live-blogging)

Currently watching, for once!

Didn’t get to see any of the bouts on FX because I had my last final exam to take. Now that I’m on break for a month, I will actually get to keep this blog somewhat relevant.

Beautiful KO by Matt Brown (defeated Mike Swick), he dropped him too quick! It was LIGHTS OUT.

Preview for Velasquez vs Dos Santos II is on, and I just got so hype, y’all. Saturday Dec 29th, PPV. That should be interesting.

Lolz guise, come on, let’s say PRO-DIG-Y right!

Let’s see if BJ Penn still has it, he’s been in the game for a while, he’s still trying to prove  himself relevant. I’m rooting for you BJ (except everytime you fight Mr. Edgar), I wanna see what ya got! Oh, okay, I see you, had to warm up a little bit? You’re letting Rory beat up on you BJ, come on now! BJ you’re done bro……or not…your stumbling has confused everyone. If this goes to decision, you just lost bud. There’s a good connection, keep it up. Will this even go to the third round, BJ is done…I LIED. Damn, he’s still going, he’s ducking out, but going. And round 3, BJ has proved that he’s stronger than we think. Well, BJ, if you don’t do something quick, it’s going to decision and you lost. BJ, he threw his hands down giving you enough time to get him…really? Over.

I see you trying to challenge Carlos Condit, Rory MacDonald

I don’t know about y’all, but when UFC uses slow motion it cracks me up.

I don’t know how I feel about women fighting. I mean, I think it’s dope, because us women should be equals, but, I don’t know if I’d want to watch them as a headlining event.

Shogun Rua vs Alexander Gustaffson- I’d like to see Rua take the win. Well, I seem to speak soon, Shogun tripped, but recovered with holding and a knee to Alexander’s face. Get your fingers off that fence, Alexander! Points off, ref, why aren’t you saying something?! Finish the fight strong, Shogun! You’re getting your ass beat. What’s up with these older fighters tonight?! Damn, that was a good kick by Alexander though. And Alexander Gustaffson won, obviously.

I want to see Urijah fight again and win……and the people are so awkward behind Jonny Bones.

Let’s get to the main event yo, before Fox changes the programming.

Nate Diaz vs Benson Henderson- let’s get it poppin! Dramatic walk outs and ALL! Nate has a 6 inch reach advantage, wonder if he will use it to his advantage. Benson looks way more built/toned, but Diaz is in the clinch. OOh, is Diaz sayin come at me bro while on his back?! It’s just back and forth now. Benson in a split! haha. 4th round leggo boys. And now the 5th. Been meaning to live blog it way better than this, but, when you get drunk texts from your boy it’s a bit distracting. As of right now, I don’t see the belt changing. Didn’t change.

UPDATE FOR UFC 148

(As noted by the previous post that someone kindly informed me of in the ask box)

It is now confirmed that Urijah Faber will be fighting  Renan Barao

Their fight WILL be 5 rounds to determine the interim bantamweight champion

What the summer looks like, UFC style!

Saturday May 26th: UFC 146 PPV-

  • We see Jason “Mayhem” Miller in a prelim fight against CB Dollaway
  • Dan Hardy in a prelim against Duane Ludwig
  • Cain Velasquez making an appearance since losing the belt, against Antonio Silva, this should be interesting.
  • Dos Santos vs Mir as the main event, something you probably don’t want to miss! An expert striker vs a submission artist.

The Ultimate Fighter Live- FINALE; Friday June 1st

UFC on FX: Johnson vs McCall; Friday June 8th

UFC on FX: Maynard vs Guida; Friday June 22nd (This main event should be good!!)

UFC 147: PPV-June 23rd

  • Vitor Belfort takes on Wanderlei Silva
  • There isn’t much else to this fight card…YET!

UFC 148: PPV- JULY 7TH—- I’d say this is one you NEED to watch if you don’t see anything else all summer!!!!!!

  • SILVA VS SONNEN II!! (I’ve been waiting for almost 2 years to see them rematch….Chael Sonnen is the only person who’s come close to beating the Spider!)
  • Also, Dominick Cruz vs Urijah Faber (what i’ve seen, wasn’t on the UFC website card though)
  • Forrest Griffin vs Tito Ortiz (interesting)
  • Kim vs Maia
  • Melvin Guillard is fighting as well as Philippou, and Rich Franklin
  • This card isn’t complete yet, but these are the big ones on there thus far.
UFC on FX!

Watching now~i’m ridiculous whenever i watch ufc, and when i watch alone it’s even more so….haha

McGee vs Philippou:
1st round- McGee didn’t do too much, Philippou moved way more and landed some good hits, then at the last ten seconds, McGee rocked him a little.
2nd round- both men re-energized, some more leg kicks and takedown attempts, lots of heavy strikes, definitely have knockout power. mcgee can’t get the takedown, but he has philippou on the fence, if this goes to decision after the third i fear that philippou will take the win
3rd round-  mcgee seeming to come out ready to do more damage, wanting to finish philippou….ooh…accidental nut shot, now stuffs getting REAL, big blows from both men…hmm…to the judges.
Philippou won……not surprised. McGee couldn’t take him down, but both are still excellent fighters!

Johnson vs McCall- i’d like to say that both guys have ridiculous nicknames.
first round- these little 125 pounders are fast! with everything they do! just so quick, you really can’t look away from the screen. some nice takedowns from mccall, but if i was johnson i wouldn’t be able to take him seriously because of mccall’s hair-do. mccall is dropping his hands, a little anderson silva esque, huh?! and finally some world-rocking, mccall had a big hit to the face, but they’re still going at it.
second round- johnson rocked him quickly within the first few seconds, but mccall seems unaffected by most of the blows. and another NUT SHOT. what is this trend happening tonight? seriously it’s like these fighters are hyped up on coffee the way they are going around the octagon. i’m surprised there hasn’t been a TKO yet!
third round- and another nut shot. really boys? another mccall takedown, and another! ground and pound city right now, will the ref stop it?! mccall is screaming in joy at this ground and pound!
Johnson won……..this makes no sense whatsoever….crowd booing.

Benavidez vs Urushitani-flyweights!
1st: they’re also very fast! lots of leg kicks, some ground and pound, submission attempts.
2nd: oops, apparently if you go to the bathroom for 2 seconds you miss the end of the fight………Urushitani knocked out!
Benavidez with the win, obviously!

Alves vs Kampmann-striking vs submissions….this’ll be interesting.
1st round: big hits from both, both really determined to finish the other one off as soon as they can. some ground and pound action, submission attempts, kampmann cannot get out from under alves, finally up at the end of the round.
2nd round: some good strikes, attempting to rock each other with the blows, probably the bloodiest fight of the night, and there isn’t even a lot of blood.
3rd round: good knee from kampmann, KAMPMANN JUST GOT HIM TO TAP OUT. Was NOT expecting that!!

ULTIMATE FIGHTER—
Team Cruz vs Team Faber……..I’m just going to let y’all know now that I am Team Faber ALL DAY, every day.

Urijah Faber is one of my favorites, this just makes him that much better :)

Shaving his head for his sister who was in a terrible car accident.

Looks amazing!

UFC 139!

Tomorrow night. I’ll be out of town until Sunday night, so I don’t get to watch. :/ Hopefully next semester my schedule will work out better with fight nights!

Looking at the card, it’s pretty stacked.

I hope to see wins from—

Shogun Rua, Wanderlei, Urijah Faber (I want to see him fight Dominick Cruz again……), and Stephan Bonnar.

Sorry this post is slightly lame……I will compensate soon!

Dominick Cruz and Urijah Faber ~ post fight press conference….

Both are excellent fighters, I’d love to see them fight again. And see Urijah with the belt.

UFC 132 ~ recap

Here’s my recap of the main card. Which was stacked and epic, very good fight night.

Cruz vs Faber….definitely an upset even though Cruz was the title holder going into the fight. Even though Cruz is only 2 inches taller than Faber, he seemed like a giant, but Faber is definitely way more cut. It was a good and close fight, I really would like to see these two fight again, and see Faber with the win. (Had some of his early on swings landed clean, they would have rocked Cruz’s WORLD). I called Urijah with the win, sad to see him not get the title.

Leben vs Silva….honestly, didn’t even realize that it was Wanderlei fighting until they announced it. I had high expectations for Leben, it was a while since I’ve seen him take to the octagon. Silva is a highly respected fighter, both men are very good at what they do. But Leben went in and literally rocked Silva’s world with that first round TKO. I called Leben to win, so I was happy not only with my correctness, but with how ridiculous and quick the fight was.

Ortiz vs Bader….WOW!! I had been disappointed with Ortiz lately, just as Dana White had been, and I was apprehensive to choose him to win. I thought Ortiz’s last loss was his last fight with the UFC, but, Dana gave him his last chance tonight, and he proved himself worthy, definitely a jaw dropper. Bader is a good fighter, good competition for Ortiz, but that first round submission was crazy! I also think that Ortiz is a little bit washed up, but he proved himself worthy of being flashy.

Condit vs Kim….what the…..I was pulling for Kim to win, but with that first round TKO by Condit, I was blown. Definitely giving props to Condit for a fight well done, credit where credit is deserved. The fight was so quick, I don’t really have much else to say about it! Definitely not the last time we will see Kim in the octagon- definitely an upset.

Siver vs Wiman…….interesting, and the most damaging fight of the night. And by damaging, I mean bloodiest! This fight is the only fight that went all of the rounds (other than the title fight), so I was kind of bored for a while since I was on the hype of quick first round finish fights, then, as soon as Wiman sliced Siver, I started paying more attention. The fight was close, but I can see where Wiman would be sort of cocky and get the thought in his mind that he had won……then, when Bruce Buffer announced the official decision, he stormed out of the octagon- not very professional. While I understand it, it simply isn’t a good idea to show your ass like that.

—-I only saw one prelim fight which they showed while buying time before the co-mains…but DAMN!! Guillard  is a BEAST! And I can guarantee you that we will be seeing plenty more of him in the future.

Overall- this card was stacked, lots of really great fighters in the mix. Many quick fights which kept everyone hyped, while the fights that did go all rounds kept everyone on edge. I am satisfied (just a little blown that Urijah didn’t get the title.)
